Uppingham Summer School

In 2011, the Trust was able to begin funding local projects and initiated a series of subsidies for courses run in the holidays by the Uppingham Summer School. This project is on-going and will be expanded in future years.

"Thanks to the Windmill House Trust, a number of children have benefitted from attending one of Uppingham Summer School's holiday courses. Without the support of the Windmill House Trust, the children concerned would never have been able to take part, and without exception, they have all benefitted enormously from the experience, be it drama, singing, music or arts & crafts". (Enterprise Manager) "My daughter had a wonderful week and has not stopped talking about the things made during the art and craft course. I have never seen her so animated and smiling". Uppingham Childrens' Choir

"As Director of Uppingham Childrens' Choir (UCC), I was delighted to receive such generous funding from Windmill House Trust. The award will enable children from Uppingham and the surrounding area to participate in, and enjoy massed singing at the very highest level. UCC's ethos is one of inclusiveness and total engagement - connecting with and inspiring young people through music." (Lesley Ffrench, Uppingham Children's Choir)

Spotlight Dance

"Around 300 young people from 20 schools in Rutland will benefit the most from the funding we have received, by having the opportunity to perform as part of Spotlight Dance Festival 2012. The financial support that we received from the Windmill House Trust has meant that this long standing event can carry on for another year despite the current climate. For some of the young people it will mean keeping their passion for dance alive and for others, a once in a life time opportunity to perform on a professional stage to a public audience. The application process was smooth and we were supported along the way. I speak for everyone involved in Spotlight when I say we are incredibly grateful and very happy to be associated with the Windmill House Trust on this project." (Sarah Bell, Spotlight Dance Co-ordinater and dance coach)

Rutland Children's Theatre Project

"Thanks to the Windmill House Trust, the Rutland Children's Theatre Project aims to ensure that children in Rutland have the chance to see free live theatre performances in a fully equipped purpose-built theatre. The funding received will ensure that we can provide a programme of professional performances, ranging from puppetry to plays for young teenagers. Swamp Juice and Tiddler are this year’s opening shows. Live theatre for young children is difficult to get to and it's expensive but, with the Trust's help, things are changing for children in Rutland." (Alasdair McLachlan, Uppingham School Theatre Manager)

Further discussions with dance, theatre and music organisations are underway and it is hoped that the Trust will be able to fund projects of this type for the foreseeable future. Funding for individuals is also available, given certain conditions.
